CORR

Season Opener
story & photos by Trent Riddle

Championship Off Road Racing has been around for eight years, providing fans access to fast paced, fender-to-fender off road racing on a closed course. The formula is simple, hold exciting race action where fans can watch from the stands and television crews can beam the wheel-to-wheel skirmishes to the world. CORR racing is fast paced and fun to watch. Best off all, fans don’t have to drive miles out into the desert just to view drivers race past never to be seen again. In this author’s opinion, CORR Racing can be compared to the chariot races of Rome, with the horses under the hood instead of out in front of it.

In addition to racing, the pit areas are open to fans allowing them to get close to the teams they love. Daily autograph sessions are held where drivers meet and greet eager race devotees. If you’ve never attended an off-road race, consider making it out to a CORR event. The action is fast paced and the pit time is fun for the whole family, the season opener even had carnival rides for the kids. The CORR schedule can be found on their web site, www.corracing.com.

RACETEAMS
Race Teams come in all types and sizes, even in CORR. We looked at three levels of teams. Factory-supported team, with its key backing coming from a Major automotive manufacturer. Mid-level team, with its key-backing coming from aftermarket manufacturers. Entry-level team, with their key support coming from the family business.

Greg Adler is the only driver for Team Adler. Greg competes in the Pro 2 division. At this time, we are not aware of any future plans to add another vehicle and driver. 2006 will be Team Adler’s first full season in CORR. In 2005 Greg had one win in the CORR Sportsman Division for the last race of the season. Greg’s race experience consists of six wins in the NASCAR Super Truck Touring Series and ten years experience in SCORE desert racing. www.gregadlermotorsports.com

Team Schmitt drivers consist of Art Schmitt, his son A. J. Schmitt and Casey Currie. Art Schmitt has been competing in the Pro Lite division since 1998 and has had several wins over the years and finished last season in 5th place overall. His experience in off-road racing goes back 32 years to open wheel buggies on East Coast tracks. In the last 10 years Art has won 9 off-road championships, three driver of the year awards and two hard charger awards. A.J. Schmitt has a family background in racing and is competing for the first time this year in CORR, in the Super Buggy division. The other new member to the Schmitt team is Casey Currie. Casey came up through the ranks of off-road racing competing in AMA Pro Motocross, Jeep Speed and even raced Class 1 in the 2004 Baja 500 and Pro Truck in the 2004 Baja 1000. Casey comes to Team Schmitt after locating his own sponsorships and then striking a deal to run under the Schmitt banner. www.artschmittracing.com

Team Noel is a father and son team, Larry & Leon Noel. Larry and Leon split the race fun with Larry taking the driver’s seat on Saturday and Leon behind the wheel on Sunday. This is the first season in CORR for both father and son. However, Leon has past race experience with SCORE racing in the Class 1 Unlimited division. He tells us he even has a win under his belt from the 1984 Baja 1000. Larry’s other race experience is two years in the Ultra Stock class in the Mickey Thompson series. Leon has lots of seat time in go-carts, on quads but this is his first race season. No Team Website
