Sergeant Brian Horn from LaPlata, Maryland, an Army Infantry Soldier with the 173rd Airborne Brigade was in the Kirkuk area of Iraq when he started the idea of AnySoldier to help care for his soldiers. He agreed to distribute packages that came to him with “Attn: Any Soldier” in his address to the soldiers who were not getting mail. Brian is no longer in Iraq but Any Soldier Inc. continues with your support.
Any Soldier Inc. started in August 2003 as a simple family effort to help the soldiers in one Army unit, thus their name. However, due to overwhelming requests, on January 1, 2004 their effort was expanded to include any member, of any of the Armed Services, in harms way.
They now have 1,191 Military Contacts: 1042 Army, 47 Marine, 92 Air Force, and 10 Navy who are helping approximately 46,314 soldiers!
The number of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines now helped by this effort is in the neighborhood of 60,000-80,000 and the number of civilians helped is unknown, as is the real size of the support base of this effort. AnySoldier.com’s primary attraction is that you CAN do something other than put a magnet on your car. You can make a significant difference in the lives of those fighting overseas! AnySoldier.com’s focus will always be, politics aside, supporting those who are in harm’s way.
AnySoldier.com provides soldier contacts on the Where to Send page. Read through the names and select the ones you wish to support. They list what they need and want they even have a search capability so you can easily identify what units need.
The soldiers are volunteers for this effort, they see the “ATTN: Any Soldier” line and put your letters and packages into the hands of soldiers who don’t get much or any mail.
They also have What to Send and How to Send pages to help you properly send letters and packages, and a FAQ page, please read these. This effort is 110% voluntary. You send your support, and maybe some stuff, directly to whatever unit or units you want, you don’t send AnySoldier.com anything.
PLEASE read the entire web site before you send anything, they want you to be informed and comfortable with this effort as many people are.
Responding to the many, many requests they get from folks looking for pre-packaged care packages, Any Soldier Inc. is proud to announce “TreatAnySoldier.com”! There you will find several available packages designed by Sergeant Brian Horn’s Mom, who was an Army MP herself, who with Brian developed packages are sure to be appreciated. For folks who simply don’t have the time, or just can’t leave home and want to do something, these packages are just the thing. You can even have a letter sent inside the package. TreatAnySoldier.com has been the second largest single benefactor to the Any Soldier Inc. effort. Learn all about it at TreatAnySoldier.com.
