Bill’s Ready For A Cold, Harsh Mutha!

I don’t have a “Before” picture, but it was just a stock 2003 F-350 super Duty with a V-10. It now breathes through a K&N and soon to be exhaling out of Flowmasters. It has a Pro Comp 4” lift, shocks, and Extreme Alloy wheels with 315/75R16 Pro Comp A/Ts. It has a 6-speed manual and 4:10 gears. I’m looking at programmers and a new mass air set up. I went a little wacky on the sound system, which blasts 800 watts of XM Radio. I love this truck. It gets nasty here in Michigan’s upper peninsula, thanks for helping me get her ready for anything Mother Nature can chuck at her! 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers has fantastic customer service. Keep up the good work. Great magazine too.

Giving Credit For A Shared Good Deed

In the November issue’s S-10 Extremists Uwharrie Bash story, it was reported that the Extremists were solely responsible for moving the abandoned and stripped Blazer on Cherokee Hill. The S-10 Extremists want to make sure that proper credit goes where it’s due. In fact, the abandoned Blazer was removed thought the combined efforts of the Southern Off Road Association (SORA), Carolina Off Road Extremists, Darlington Off Road and the Uwharrie Recreation Association. Members of the S-10 Extremists were also involved, of course. Thanks to Keith Holman for setting us straight. — Jim Allen

The Silver Bullet

I’m pretty proud of my new truck. Thanks to the team at your Riverside location (Josh and Mitch) my truck is even more cool than I imagined. It’s a work in progress, one project a month, so far I have several cool modifications which include: Fabtech 7” Performance lift kit, Pro Comp 35” tires with Pro Comp Extreme wheels, K&N FIPK, Gibson Performance Dual Exhaust, Hypertech Power Tuner and lots more, too many to mention.

Mitsu Disengages The ABS

This is more like a response to the Finesse article about ABS Brakes while on the trail. The article describes the problems that ABS can create while off-roading and rightly so. However, I did a little research and just wanted to put this out there so people know — I don’t know about other vehicles, but Mitsubishi designed the Montero to automatically disengage the ABS when the center differential is locked. The ABS dash light illuminates to signify that the ABS has been disabled for off-roading type driving. I didn’t know this until I researched it after reading your article, so I wanted to share this information with everyone else who might be considering buying a vehicle for off-roading or trail riding. I really enjoy reading your magazine and learn a lot from the articles. Thank you.

Thanks for the heads up on the Mitsu, Scott. The article did exactly what I wanted it to do, in your case at least, and that’s to look it up in your owner’s manual. I started to research this and make a chart of the various systems but that got real complicated real fast, given the years, models and model year changes since ABS began. — Jim Allen

Don’t Leave Home Without Him!

This is my 1977 Chevy 1-ton. This truck was the best investment I ever made. I can sit here and tell you everything about it but why brag, anyone who knows 4x4s will know this is one tough truck, and worth every penny. I once owned a half-ton, never again. This truck is definitely off-roaded, and my friends don’t leave home without me.

His High Milage Babe Still Turns Heads

Perhaps you can consider the following for a future issue of your magazine, which is one of the most informative and entertaining magazines I receive. Attached is a picture of my 1990 GMC Sierra P/U. This is my first truck of this type that I have owned. So far it has: Geolander II 32/11.50R15 tires mounted on Progressive rims, Flowmaster exhaust system with a series 40 muffler, shorty headers, a K & N air filter system, and a steady diet of lots of TLC. The truck drives great on the road and is a whole bunch of fun when the urge to put it in 4WD and leave the asphalt in the rearview mirror takes over. This truck has over 120,000 miles on it and it still turns heads when I drive it through town.

Isuzu+Utah=Zutah

First of all, what a great mag. It is definitely good to see that there is still someone unbiased towards current trends. Also, I wanted to tell you about more of those trailworthy Isuzus you can find on the trails today. I am a proud member of Zutah Wheelers club, which is located in Utah and we have rigs ranging from mild to wild and they are all Isuzus. In stock form these trucks can hold their own and if you throw some mods into the mix, look out! I do realize shortcomings of IFS as well, but it really all comes down to who drives it and their driving style. Thanks for taking time to read my letter.

Nice Compliments And Nice Willys

Just thought I’d drop you a note telling you how much I enjoy Off Road Adventures You guys really hit the nail on the head with that concept and I look forward to it every month. I get all the 4 wheel magazines mailed to me, but yours is the only one that I save. Jim Allen’s pieces in the magazine are great! He’s a keeper. Here’s a shot of my 1950 Willys Wagon that you guys have helped me build. From shocks and brake lines, to tires and wheels, my purchases from you have really helped to set my truck off from the rest. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
