My Rig Is A Smidge Ugly But She’s Waay Articulate!
This is my ’81 Chevy 4x4. It has a 2-inch Rancho with 4-inch scissor shackles up front and a 2-inch Rancho with 4 inch scissor springs in the rear. The truck rolls on 39.5x15 TSL’s, 15x10 American Racing wheels. Power comes from a 250 straight six and through the sm465 tranny into the 208 t-case and down to the open (ARB soon) Dana 44 3/4 ton up front and a locked 14-bolt in the rear. I’ve bobed the bed 11 inches installed a Blazer gas tank in the bed and made the half doors. I love the mag, keep up the good work.
Thanks, Kyle Gage, Sonora, CA
Kyle, We’re guessing you probably don’t carry much loose stuff in your bed with those big holes in the wheel tubs to accomodate your “articulating” tires.
Nick Goes Where Others Fear To Tread

This is my ‘93 Jeep Wrangler. It has 14-1/2 inches of lift with 38” Super Swamper radials. I have had all of the gears in the tranny changed and also added the Skyjacker transfer case lowering kit. It has an 8000 lb. winch on the front to help me when it is needed. Some of my friends said that I needed a V8 until I proved them wrong. I had two friends who really helped with it all. We like to go out on Sunday afternoon and go riding. Not many other vehicles go but they enjoy riding in mine. I really enjoy your magazine and look forward to them every month. Keep up the good work!

An Offended Reader
Hello my name is Sarah Cottrill. I recently entered to win the 2005 Kawasaki Prairie 4x4, which was advertised in the September 2004 edition of your Off-Road Adventures magazine on page 15. The entry ad reads as follows, “You could be the king of the two-track with Kawasaki’s new king of the big-bore 4x4 ATVs, the Prairie 700 4x4. With this puppy, you can get even further out in the boonies and do it in style with massive power. Even better, the actual prize will be the 2005 model!”
When I read “king of the two-track” I found that to be very sexist. I am a female and an off-road enthusiast. When someone says king, it sounds as if only men should be able to participate in the two-track off-road adventures. I personally love to ride ATVs and think that more and more women are starting to enjoy the sport, thrill, and adventures of off-roading.
I just wanted to let you know how I felt about this and I do hope that you think twice about who all reads your magazine and how it may offend them in some way. Now all I can do is wait to see if I’m the winner of the ATV.

Sarah, To be honest, we certainly did not think we would offend anyone by giving away a brand new “Top Royalty Person” of the big-bore Kawasaki ATV. We also know that more women are participating in the sport as we receive a number of letters from women and see more and more women on the trails these days driving their own rigs, ATVs, dirt bikes and snowmobiles. It’s a little late for us to change the wording in the entry advertisement as this is the last month of the giveaway, but here’s the best we can do. “You could be the ‘Top Royalty Person’ of the two-track with Kawasaki’s new ‘Top Royalty Person’ of the big-bore 4x4 ATVs, the Prairie 700 4x4...” By the way, all entries must be received by December 15th. Anyone can either mail in the entry blank in this issue or enter online at www.oramagazine.com — D.S.
Lump Of Coal

Just a quick note from another soldier deployed to Afghanistan. My fiancé has been sending your magazine to me, and after a couple months here I really look forward to it. Attached are a couple photos of my 1985 CJ7 “Lump of Coal.” It will be parked for about a year now and I’m really looking to getting home and making a trip to Moab to do some wheeling again. Shortly after I bought my Jeep it caught on fire and needed a complete rebuild. Now it sits on 33x12.50s, 4” suspension lift, lockers front and rear, rear disc brake conversion, and full floating rear axle with lock out hubs. I had the stock 258 6-cylinder rebuilt and added a cam, Weber carb, a stainless steel header and cat-back exhaust. Not a racer but it gets me around wheeling just fine. The paint job is what gets the most comments. We coated the entire body inside and out with spray-in bedliner. The flames on the hood are also a second coat of bedliner. I don’t have to worry about rock chips, brush scratches or rust ever again. Well I hope you can use this and I look forward to seeing my “Lump of Coal” in your magazine soon.

James, Okay, we’ll make the obvious comment question, how many pounds does your paint job weigh?
