October 2004 Issue

No Name Column

This issue you are reading marks the 5th year anniversary of Off-Road Adventures magazine. Who knew when we started, that it would grow to what it is in such a short time? It began modestly as just a “good idea” banging around in our heads and the philosophy to, “Take the Trail Less Traveled.”

There are a lot of people who have contributed their talents, hard work and passion to this publication since the beginning. A big, “THANK YOU!” to those whose names appear on the masthead at the right of this page and to the others who have gone on to other pursuits.

But the biggest, “THANK YOU!” goes to you, our readers who, through your emails and letters, have shared your passion for the outdoors and the sport of off-roading. Though we cannot possibly answer all those we receive, we really do read every one that comes in. We take your suggestions seriously and tweak the magazine to tailor it to your needs. KEEP THEM COMING!

Be sure to also keep the photos and quick descriptions of your rigs coming. Seems like everyone really enjoys checking out each other’s vehicles out. We’ve also received a bunch of Before & After submissions over the past few months and will be including those in upcoming issues. You are invited to send your Before & After photos and brief descriptions on what your vehicle was like before you started modifying it and what you ended up with when you were finished (yeah, like who’s ever really “finished” with modifying their rig).

The latest info (more recent than what’s in Letters & Stuff column this month) from the soldiers of the 1st. Battalion in Iraq is that their morale is okay and they are halfway through their deployment... that’s if they’re not extended. The “Care Packages” they have received from our readers are much appreciated. Their needs have changed a little and don’t need the personal hygiene items as much. Now they really could use reading materials such as magazines and newspapers to let them know what’s happening at home. Even if the newspapers are a few weeks old by the time they receive them, it’s still news from home to them.

We at Off-Road Adventures have been sending packages on a regular basis and we REALLY ENCOURAGE all our readers to step up and support the men and women who are fighting in Iraq. They definitely deserve all our support to help them through a very difficult situation. Please take a few minutes and invest a few bucks to put together a package of items that they could use and send it parcel post (regular mail) to the address below. Then send a letter or email (info@oramagazine.com) to let us know what you did so we can share it with the rest of our readers.

Thanks again for a great first five years and let’s crank it up for the next five!

Denis, editor

A Long Haul For A Good Cause

After driving 16,000 miles for six months, BFGoodrich Tires has passed the half way mark on the Drive Around The World Longitude Expedition to raise money for Parkinson’s Disease research. Arriving in Australia after an ocean-bound trip from South America, the Drive Around The World team is praising the performance of the Mud-Terrain T/A KM tire, one of the world’s most durable and respected off-road tires.

After the team crosses Australia, they will take a northerly course toward the arctic circle of Siberia. The expedition’s distance-learning program, which aims to foster curiosity within schoolchildren, has answered more than 4,000 questions posed by students via the Internet from around the world. To donate to the Drive Around The World Longitude Expedition and raise money for Parkinson’s Disease research, check out http://www.drivearoundtheworld.com. One hundred percent of contributions go directly to the charity.
