AN UPLIFTING EXPERIENCE

Installing a Performance Accessories 3-inch Body Lift on a 2003 Dodge 2500 or 3500

Read the instructions and verify the kit components. Do not try to install a kit on a vehicle for which it is not intended. Park the vehicle on a clean flat surface and disconnect the battery cables. Remove the Air bag fuses. Check owner’s manual for specifications.
STEPS 1-4

1. Remove the front bumper and bumper brackets from the vehicle. Reposition and/or remove the AC condenser and intercooler. Remove air box and air inlet piping. Remove the intercooler piping from the engine.
2. Remove the steering shaft bolt and the middle steering shaft from the upper steering shaft inside the engine compartment.
3. Remove wiring harnesses and brake lines from clips along the driver side frame rail. Remove the fuel filler from the bed and the fuel tank. Pay special attention to close off the fuel tank to avoid fuel fumes and possible fuel related dangers.
4. Lower the spare tire according to the owner’s manual. Disconnect the license plate lights and the wiring harness from the rear bumper. Remove the rear bumper and rear bumper brackets from the frame.
STEPS 5-7

5. Manual Transmission Vehicles: Remove shift lever assembly from vehicle. Lengthen the shift lever assembly using the kit parts provided. Position the modified shift lever in the vehicle.
6. Manual Transfer-case Vehicles: Remove the 4WD linkage from the transfer-case and 4WD shifter.
7. Loosen all of the body mount bolts. Remove the passenger side body mount bolts. Using a hydraulic jack lift the passenger side of the cab high enough to position the lift blocks on top of the factory body bushings. Lower the cab and install but do not tighten the body mount bolts provided in the kit for the passenger side of the truck. Repeat this series of steps for the driver side. Pay close attention to the brake lines and wiring harnesses along the frame while lifting either side of the cab. Once the cab is safely sitting on the lift blocks, remove the body mount bolts one at a time; apply a liberal amount of the Loctite provided in the kit to the threads, and torque according to the instructions. Same procedure goes with the truck bed mount, but also pay special attention to the gas filler and any ground straps that may be connected to the bed.
STEPS 8-10

8. Extend the fuel filler using the fuel filler extensions provided in the kit. Install the fuel filler assembly on the fuel tank and the bed. Install wiring harnesses and brake lines in clips along the driver and passenger side frame rails.
9. Installing the steering extension: Apply a liberal amount of the Loctite provided in the kit to the threads of both the steering shaft bolt and the kit Allen bolt. Install the steering extension on the middle steering shaft with steering shaft bolt. Install the steering extension on the upper shaft with the kit Allen head bolt. Tighten both bolts according to the instructions.
10. Position and install the AC condenser, intercooler, and radiator with the provided kit brackets. Install the air box, air inlet piping, and intercooler piping according to the instructions.
STEPS 11-14

11. Trim the original front bumper brackets as shown in the instructions. Install the front bumper and kit front bumper brackets on the vehicle. Don’t worry, you do not lose the use of your tow hooks.
12. Install the brackets for the spare tire winch and spare tire tube accessories. Install the three kit brackets for the rear bumper and install the rear bumper.
13. Re-install the air bag fuses in the fuse console and connect the battery cables.
14. Manual Transmission Vehicles: Test the modified shift levers operation in the vehicle. Manual Transfer-case Vehicles: Adjust the 4WD linkage using the loc-bolt on the linkage from the transfer-case to the 4WD shifter. Ensure there is proper engagement in all drive and 4WD gears.
Performance Accessories has been in the body lift kit business for 25 years. Their customers have been asking for diesel body lifts and Performance obliged with the release of the industry’s first diesel kit. In 2003 they introduced the ’03 Dodge diesel 2WD and 4WD body lift kit #60113. Now in 2004, they are introducing the 1994-02 Dodge diesel 2WD and 4WD body lift kit #60133. These two kits are the premier package for bigger tires, more ground clearance, and an aggressive off-road look. Unlike suspension lift kits that can put one’s wallet in a bit of a “cash crunch” bind, body lift kits are easier on the ol’ pocketbook. They also help in keeping the standard ride options that a vehicle came with while adding all of the benefits of higher ground clearance. And Chevy and Ford owners, needn’t worry as diesel body lifts for their vehicles are on the way.

Every Performance Accessories body lift comes complete with everything needed to lift the body and bumpers. In the next few steps you will find out how easy it is to install a body lift kit on a 2003 Dodge diesel truck. Remember, local lift and bumper height laws should always be consulted before installing any type of lift on your vehicle.

SPECIAL NOTE: Check all of the bolts and nuts every 500 miles for correct torque.

As you can see this kit is fairly easy to install. There are quite a few steps involved that were not mentioned here but were easy to summarize in the steps above. The kit instructions are very comprehensive and illustrated. Tools you need for this kit are standard hand tools and a grinder and/or a cutoff tool. Air tools can speed up the process, but are not needed. Performance Accessories recommends that a certified welder perform all welding. So now that your vehicle has higher ground clearance, those bigger tires, and a factory ride, you might want to think about the wheel wells. Performance Accessories highly suggests that the gap now between the body and frame be taken care of with a set of their Gap Guards.
