one-on-one therapy > Quick & Easy Jeep Upgrades Box of SteelTuffy CJ Box Upgrade
photography by Trent Riddle & courtesy of the manufacturer Typically the only storage you are sure of in a Jeep is the glove box. The trouble is, the glove box often doesn’t lock, and when it does, it can be opened with a penknife. Having even a small bit of secure storage in a Jeep is critical, after all, you are required by law to carry your registration and insurance papers at all times. Do you really want anyone walking by to be able to find out where you live, or would you rather lock those important papers away? Tuffy Products makes heavy-duty lockable glove boxes that are built to take a lifetime of abuse. The 16-gauge steel is finished with an epoxy finish for durability. Installation is simple, especially on Jeep CJs, as installed here. Tuffy also offers security glove boxes for Jeep Wranger YJs and TJs. They also have a new unit for Early Broncos. 1. The stock glove box door on our CJ5 didn’t even have a lock on it. Of course, a penknife would have opened it if it did.
2. Believe it or not, the factory glove box liner was paper. This one is in good shape, but even so, it’s far from secure.
3. Here you can see a comparison between the factory glove box assembly and the Tuffy high security glove box. Notice the bulge on the back of the Tuffy unit to get you all the extra space that is available behind the dash.
4. The stock glove box door and liner are removed and the Tuffy unit is bolted into place. It’s a direct fit with very little trouble. |
